Skiiiiiiiiing!

Mikes has been getting into skiing big time. Winter conditions in Utah aren't great for ice climbing, so to keep from getting cabin fever, he's taken up skiing. He loves to backcountry ski, but when the alta ski passes dropped in price, he couldn't resist getting it so he could also get in some quality time with the neighbors.

with the neighbors?? What about with Smithy and me? Well, to be honest, my little feets don't do too well in the snow. My paw will freeze and then I have to hobble around on three legs, overall I don't last much more than 20 min outside. So my quality mike-rastro time will have to remain in bed. But Smithy has decided to give this skiing business a try!

Alta is the awesomest because they have ski free after 3pm! hoot! How could you not do it? Some people may grumble that renting gear must cost a ton. Well, Smithy is lucky to have an awesome Janet friend who lends her skiis, but even if you don't have your own Janet friend, you can rent gear for $8!

So, a week ago, Mikes took Smithy up the Sunnyside lift. The first time, it took her an hour to get down the mountain, but she made it. It was scary! But this time when Smithy went, her other awesome friend Foxy came to give her a lesson! Why pay Alta when you can pay Foxy for a one on one lesson? Seriously, she's the best! Smithy learned how to pizza turn, airplane, and started doing some normal turns. A little sad for me, because that means Smithy will be hitting up the slopes more often with her new found skills. Who knows, before the seasons over, she may even get down a blue!
