1/3 of the way there

Every once in awhile I feel the need to update on my plan to get in the best shape of my life. It's been a hard battle. Mainly because I love to eat soooo much! I definitely get that from my mom- she has a serious sugar tooth and is always eating the sweets. I don't know how she stays so tiny.

So to compensate for my love of food, I have been trying really hard to get out and exercise. I've picked up running as my weapon of choice since it tends to burn the most calories. Awhile ago I met with a U of U exercise guy (one of the perks of the U health plan) to come up with a plan. He gave me a schedule to get going and then in June I'll go back for an actual 1/2 marathon running plan.

The past week or so I've broken out of the 3 mile range to the 4 mile (~ 1/3 of my half marathon goal). Hooray! This is great b/c that's about the length of a roundrip on 11th ave. So on sunny days I can take the A-man out. We're probably a funny sight to see since I'm huffing away while Astro is barely trotting. I plan on rigging up an astro running leash so that he can help pull me along when we reach an incline. Stay tunned for pictures.

And for those who are also trying to pick up running, let me know if you want to join in on the San Fransisco 1/2 Marathon in October. It's a lottery, so I'm pulling together a little team, including myself and my awesome sister Emma.

Hehe! Remember the Astro/Missoula running leashes we made a long time ago?? Missoula misses running with Astro. And I miss running with you!
Also, I've used Hal Higdon's half marathon training plan: www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm
I don't follow it exactly, but as long as you do the progressively long runs one day a week, you'll be fine!

I'm proud of you Heather! It's hard to start, but once you work your way up you feel so much better! And that's great that you have someone to help you set a plan! Chris and I are training for a 10 mi. race in Philly in May, and man, I feel like you summed it up when you said, "trying to get into the best shape of my life" and how hard it is! It is nice to make some progress and celebrate it!

Oh man, that's wild man! I'm running but we're talking... I'm working on running for 5 min straight. No where near where you are :) But good luck!
