The Stone Wall! Inside...

So, Heather was really hatin' the divider between the dining room and the living room...it is a little boxy. She had the idea of turning it into a stone dividing wall. We found some stone for 1.40 a square foot so there was no reason NOT to just do it. I think we decided in the span of about three days that were going to do it. And then...all of a sudden...we were laying stone!

Well...first we had to set down the waterproofing paper...and then the mesh lathe. Basically, it was to protect the wall, and to transfer all of the weight (an added half ton per wall) to the studs. Surprisingly, this took about 50% of the total project time.

I cut my hand many many times, despite the gloves on that metal stuff!

Then we had to cool off b/c it was stinkin hot in our house.

Then we started putting down the stone. There was a false start on sat. night when I bought the wrong type of mortar...this stuff was super-ultra fast set and was designed to set under water...didn't read the package very closely...I was just looking for mortar!

So this first batch set comepletely solid IN the bucket in about 15 min. (It's still there...will use for an anchor if I ever get a sailboat). I think this is what they use when they put some dude's feet in concete before they drown him (take note!)

So we're done now....looks ok! I think we may turn our dining room back into a dining room.
