So here is the window that I needed to case in:
In addition to the normal casing millwork, I bought a medium-grade piece of solid pine. I routed it with a 1/2" round bit along the top to give it that look "sill" look. Then I used my trusty band saw (yes, this was another random find in our shed) to cut out the corners where the sill needs to extend past the window frame. I used another square piece of pine on the top (the drywall there from 1960 I imagine, wasn't very straight)
I pre-painted everything in the basement and then brought it up to begin. On the sill and top pieces I used a framing nailer to dial it in. (This was because there was brick below the wood frame...the wood was holding the nail in place, but the nail gun made it easier to get it through the brick...the brick, of course, doesn't help hold the nail in)
Then I did the regular casing with the finish nailer and caulked all of the joints:
Looks ok! Just needs a little touch up paint along the inside of casing!
