Anthropologie

Have you noticed that you no longer shop at the same stores as you did when you were in Middle School? Maybe it's the need to dress like an adult and not some hoochy momma teenager, but I find I no longer want to wear booty shorts or sneak out in a tank top... of course this could also be due to the extra pounds I've gained... but either way, with a legitimate career ahead of me, I find the need to dress like a WOMAN.

So, as soon as I came to this decision, I had to ask myself, what does a WOMAN dress like? Or more specifically, which type of WOMAN did I want to dress like? And do you necessarily have to go up a chain when you get older?

1. Gap --> Banana Republic

I still like the Gap and I see a lot of older folks there... but lately I especially love to shop at Banana. One of my latests purchases from there includes a jersey knit black dress. it's super cute! My work wardrobe is also mainly comprised of BR finds.

End result? Gap: I still like you, but I hit the BR sales first.

2. Urban Outfitters --> Anthropologie

I love the bright colored poly-cotton mix t-shirts from Urban Outfitters. Prior to the past year, I had never stepped into an Anthropologie store, but once I did, I found it strangely alluring... some of the stuff is a little too "old hippie" as mikes puts it, and it's a little pricey. But, some stuff is absolutely adorable and they carry goods for your kitchen!

End Result? I think I need to upgrade to Anthropologie, after I stock up on my basic tees...

3. J. Jill, Anne Taylor, Talbots

For some reason these stores remind me of my mom and women my mom's age. J.Jill has a section for Misses' and Women's, but what's the difference? I just don't think they're my style...yet.

End Result? Maybe when I hit my 30s.

If you could go on a shopping spree, where would you go?

I love, love, love Banana but also find great things at J. Crew. The Gap is still a staple for pants but that's about it. I like Ann Taylor Loft, but J. Jill and Talbots don't work for me...maybe when I'm 35.

I TOTALLY agree. I was at Old Navy a few weeks ago and had a major realization that I wasn't a kid anymore. I actually perused some of the "designers" at Nordstrom and found that I really liked them. Not too old, not too young. But some were WAY too old. Gotta be careful. I, too, love Ann Taylor Loft. I do love Gap for pants, but I'll have to start looking at Banana. Thanks for the tip!
