So this is my issue... you can get carseats that will carry an infant (5lbs+) through a toddler (70lbs). So why not get this carseat to begin with? Do I really need an infant carseat that will only carry an infant up to 22-35lbs since I'd have to get another car seat anyway in 6 months to a year.
It seems like most people prefer infant car seats because you can take the carseat with you if baby falls asleep. Is that the only good reason?
Should I just get a used 22 lb graco snugride cheapy (but unexpired and safe since they all have to pass the same standards - unfortunately there are no cheapy 30-35lb on ksl right now...) and worry about the convertible one when she outgrows the infant carseat? Or should I save the money and buy a convertible one now (thinking Britax Marathon...).

Mikes is being no help. What should I do??

Hmm... yes... I did a little Graco seat and when he turned 1 and could be forward facing I got him a Britax Marathon. The convertible seats are much bigger and sometimes when rear facing don't fit in a backseat very well but if you feel good about doing more babywearing instead of carrying an infant seat it might be a good option!
I was going to say the same thing about baby wearing vs infant carseat. If you don't mind carrying baby around, don't bother with the infant carseat. I did NOT want to carry my baby. I had enough back strain from nursing and liked being able to put her down. I totally know the dilemma, though! Es makes a good point about size in the backseat, though since you don't have any more babies in your near near future, it might not be too big a deal. Good luck deciding!!
Buy the convertible Britax because you'll need it eventually and borrow an infant car seat. See which one you like more and then either buy an infant car seat or use the Britax. Baby products are so readily available that there's no reason to suffer through something you don't like. If you watch babycheapskate.com you can find some great car seat deals. I got my Britax on there and saved a bunch.
