Surprise Date Night

A coworker of mine gave me two tickets to the Sundance best of fest showing (Grand Jury winner). So Mikes and I decided to make it a date night! We arrived 30 min early to the showing and managed to snag ok seats. Thanks goodness we were that early! Any later and we probably would've ended up sitting in singles across the theater from each other.

We both really liked the film: Like Crazy.

Like Crazy is a film from and about the heart. Jacob, an American, and Anna, who is British, meet at college in Los Angeles and fall madly in love. It’s the purest kind of romance—they’re each other’s first significant attachment. When Anna returns to London, the couple is forced into a long-distance relationship. Their perfect love is tested, and youth, trust, and geography become their biggest enemies.
Taking a complete tonal departure from his last film, Douchebag, which screened at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, cowriter/director Drake Doremus poetically reveals the intimate details and daily struggles of Jacob and Anna’s love affair as it stretches between time and distance and changes course. Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones are enthralling in their sweetness and honesty as the young couple. An original, contemplative look at first love, Like Crazy strikes a universal chord as it explores the bittersweet beauty and impermanence of relationships.

I loved how in love Anna and Jacob were with each other. But long distance relationships are TOUGH! Mikes and I only made it because we would split the distance and meet up at his parent's house in Connecticut at least every three weeks. I remember one night talking on the phone late at night and he said, "If you start driving right now, I will too." And I replied, "Ok." Five hours later we were in each other's arms.

Of course being a Sundance movie, the film is filled both with laughs and some serious, dramatic moments. All in all, I think it stayed true to the difficulties of being in love (with the Atlantic ocean between you) without crossing into the absurd (why I think The Break-Up failed so miserably).

And for those BBC Jane Austen lovers out there, the lead female (Felicity Jones) is also the lead in Northanger Abbey.

After the movie we had a nice bite to eat at Squatters.

Overall a splendid night.

Awesome! I've been wanting to hit up a Sundance movie since I came to college here. I need to get on that.
